We commemorate 'Total Defence Day' today, 15th February.

"...The concept of Total Defence was introduced in 1984 to rally Singaporeans together in the defence of the country. The idea was to draw upon the different strengths and abilities in our society to enhance our defence capability.

Over the years, Total Defence has been adopted as a framework for a comprehensive and integrated response, bringing all Singaporeans together, to deal with all kinds of threats and challenges, whether it is an external threat like global terrorism or a national crisis like SARS.

Total Defence has served Singapore well and made us a stronger nation. It will continue to be relevant and important for Singapore's success.

When Singaporeans take personal responsibility for and get involved in the defence of Singapore, they are playing their part to help keep Singapore strong and secure.

To help Singaporeans understand how they can be involved, Total Defence is divided into five aspects – Military Defence, Civil Defence, Economic Defence, Social Defence and Psychological Defence

"The "Home" music video is a new arrangement of the well-loved Singaporean classic written by Dick Lee and first sung by Kit Chan. To be launched on 15 February 2011, the music video brings together 39 local singers from across generations including Max Surin, Maggie Teng, Sheik Haikel, Stefanie Sun, JJ Lin, Taufik Batisah, Olivia Ong and more! They are accompanied by the Singapore Symphony Orchestra (SSO).

The music video was directed by regionally-renowned Orion Chou and produced by Full House Communications. Kit Chan, the executive producer of the music video, pulled together long-time collaborators and icons of the local music industry Goh Kheng Long and Dr Sydney Tan as music producer and vocal producer respectively.

My varsity mate, Timothy Huang, is in the video too, with his group, Vocaluptuous. :)

I have some thoughts about Total Defence and Singapore.
However, I can't quite put them into words now.
My thoughts seem to be all over the place...
